Alright I just got my SH-1 '59 Humbucker, and instead of having 3 different colored wires inside the insulation, I have just the metal coating, insulation, and many silvery thready wires inside it. I have a Fender mexican fat strat... What the hell am I supposed to do...
Please help me.
Also, I have another single coil pickup. I know i'm supposed to ground the green wire, but do I ground it to the blob of solder on the volume pot with the wire that goes to the ground at the back of the guitar?
thanks for any help
The braided outer shield of the 59' gets soldered to the back of the volume pot. The inner wire gets soldered to the pot input lug or switch, depending on your set-up.
Ground the single coil to the back of the pot also. Don't ground it in with the other solder blob you're talking about. Keep them separate. In case you want to swap out the single later, you won't have to resolder the bridge ground.
Jesus christ thank you so much, that helped ALOT
I just went through the same thing. I was expecting to see five wires when I opened up the box, but I only saw one. But a quick search on the SD forums led me to this thread.
Thank you. A discussion that took place over a year ago really helped me out.
