Hi i currently use a Boss Metal Zone pedal and although it sounds sterile and i don't generally like it, it is the best i have heard or used.

What are the best distortion pedals out there? i am talking about pedals in the same price range as the boss.

I just want some nice toneful distortion. thanks

sansamp GT2

The Marshall Guv'nor is pretty killer. I prefer the original black one but the newer Silver is pretty cool too. The Boss SD-1 is pretty standard too.

Yes, there are many! But they cost a lot more than the Boss... I'll list them anyways. It might be worth it to save a little longer and get something really nice.

My first choice: HBE Power Screamer! But if you want a good upgrade/replacement for the Metal Zone, try the Big D. It's awesome for kick-ass distortion and is very tweakable. The Power Screamer is like an 808, except better - and more versatile, because of the diode switching. from : localhost/Full Drive 2 is pretty sweet. The Distortion Pro has some big gain sounds lurking inside, and is very very tweakable. It's another Metal Zone replacement candidate. from : localhost/has some nice OD/D pedals.

Really, there are tons of quot;boutiquequot; pedals out here. If you can, get yourself to a store that carries them, plunk down your cash in front of the sales guy, and say quot;I'm gonna be here a while.quot; You won't want to go back to anything liek Boss or DOD!

If there isn't a store close to you, Steve's Music Center is great to do business with and carries most nice stuff. He cheerfully accepts exchanges within 48 hours, so you can't go wrong. from : localhost/are many more great places to buy from. Have fun!

It's great for live use and for the studio.

There are hundreds of great distortion pedals out there. Take a look at some of these 2 websites and get some ideas...

what your budget is and then try to narrow it down to a small handfull of pedals that you think would do well in the style of music and the rest of the equipment that you are playing. Just asking if there are any good distortion pedals and what are they will get you loads of suggestions.

save money for a decent amp. a good dist. pedal can't make a mediocre amp sound good.

It's out of the original posters price range, but greatttttt pedal.

hughesamp;kettner tubeman or engl tube toner, both killer distortion tones

They're pretty much the best distortion pedals you're gonna find and also because they're designed to emulate the sound of an amp, rather than some generic distortion pedal sound. The SansAmps are preamps, so unlike a plain distortion pedal they can be plugged directly into a mixer/PA and sound like many different amps, as they have mic and cab emulation – or just use it as a pedal. I have the GT2 which is also awesome for bass and many other instruments. I mainly use the SansAmp PSA-1 now. SansAmp all the way, for the money and the sound. If you want a pedal try to GT2 or TRI-AC.

It's your amp that probably sounds sterile...get something better. Something with tubes. Lew

ok, here goesmy Distorted/melted 2 cents
i don´t like any of the sans amp products
they don´t have Either enough distortion or enough power.
They commonly have agood articulation,that´strue.. but i don´tlike their tone. i preffer a ****ing BOSS metalzone than any of those SANS AMP TECH 21 Pedals. and i played the gt2, double drive, xxl, sans ampclassic.
i just didn´tplayed the triaxis.. but i think it is weakerin distortion than the gt-2.
well... i guess sepulturick is reffering to mass Destruction DISTORTIONpedals, and not BOOST-A-AMP overdrive/distortionpedalslike the sd-1 or ds-1 Right?
if so... you can try the ones from the AMT ELECTRONICS.
they have dealers in usa.
check out the models British, Du Hast, Californian(a?)
have good results with the metalzone, eqwise speaking.. but i agree that it can be a problem to have ENOUGH clarity/articulation.
but it doesn´t bothers me at all, in my OWN opinion.. (aside from playing nowadays in my pc speakers instead of a real amp, cause i don´t have the money tobuy the one i like now) i can play with the metalzone with no ****ing problems. it´s tight, fat and crunchy.
check out my clips on the soundcLICK page
from : localhost/the track from : localhost/see metalzone INTERACTINGWITH THE EMG 81.
and also my recordingwith my exband,BEFAMAL
WWW.MYSPACE.COM/BEFAMAL
FOR THE BEFAMAL STUFF, i useda brazilian stratocaster with a class of 55 dimarzio single coil in the neck for one part of the lead on the song BELIEF, and i used metalzone through the clean channelof the MARSHALL VALVESTATE 100 amp. ALL the way,all the tracks.

Barber Direct Drive.

I haven't all the Sans Amp stuff, but I did own a Tri-AC for awhile, and was VERY unimpressed with it. If you were doing classic rock stuff, it's probably great, but for metal, big thumbs down.

It didn't have much in the way of gain, and was noisey as hell. Plus, the difference in the 3 models was WAY more subtle than even the Behringer V-Amp2.

Also,checkout LINE 6 UBERMETAL
i bought one froma friend fromthe SD forum but i can´t say nothing until i play it,and it´s not here with me.
i´ll giveafull review of it as soon as i get toplay it

Yah
i don´t know why people always reffer(at least here inbrazil) to the GT-2 as quot;AN AWESOMEPEDAL FOR ALLKINDS OF MUSIC STYLES. FROM JAZZ TO METALquot; ahahah it´s a true LIE
HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Rocktron Silver Dragon

Seriously I haven't heard a distortion box with a fatter low end!
It has 1 tube but isn't too expensive. It has 2 channels, low gain all tube and high gain where they add a SS stage.

I own a Metal zone too and liked it for years. Now I never use it anymore, the SD is that much better.

Remember that good high gain tone never comes cheap.
