Hi, i recently bought a solid Les Paul copy with a solid Mahogony body and a rosewood fretboard. Basically the stock pickups (Wilkinson) aren't bad but they just aren't quot;metalquot; enough. I need advice on choosing a new bridge humbucker.

I play mostly metal. Stuff like Megadeth, metallica, Children of Bodom, In Flames, Kreator, Bal Sagoth among loads others.

I want the pickup to be slightly dark sounding with tight chunky bass for palm muting but also a distinctive lead tone for soloing.

I think passive is the way i want to go for now so any advice and comments abouts peoples experiences with les pauls and the various bridge humbuckers would be great.

I don't want a totally modern sounding pickup nor do i want a vintage sounding one. something inbetween perhaps. thanks

I think the invader would be what your looking for. There's a guy on the forum who does something like hooking it up with no tone pot to make it brighter which would help you out

Duncan Custom

What the heck, get the set. I had a DD set in a LP for quite awhile and it was a killer sounding metal guitar.

One problem bro, this is what the guy wants,

Well, in all Mahogany with a rosewood board and 24.75 scale, the Invadr will be muddy with no clarity 9 times out of 10. Distintive lead tone for soloing, not with the Invader! Not enough clarity IMO for solo's! He dosent want a totally modern sound or a vintage one, that almost describes the custom. It can actually do both of them IMO! Dont get me wrong, the Invader is a great pickup but, it isnt what he is looking for!

Go for the Custom!

I think the Custom is cool all around, but for metal, the Distortion is the way to go.

Distortion. The Distortion I had was really responsive to tone adjustments and fat enough for single note soloing. I think its the most versitile ceramic pup made.

You could run a duncan distortion with a small value cap on the tone knob. Run something like a .047 uf for a tone cap and you'll be set. This will allow you to cut mainly the bright of the pickup for a more vintage sound. Plenty of other frequencies to go around IMHO on the distortion.

No doubt here , it's the Distortion with full shred or Jazz in neck .
In lespaul you want treebles , mids and tight bass .
