Here's what I'm trying to achieve:
Three pickup Tele, with a 5 way switch
Position 1- Neck pickup only
Position 2- Neck and Bridge, in series
Position 3- Neck and Bridge OFF (but not a total killswitch for the entire guitar)
Position 4- Neck and Bridge in parrallel
Position 5- Bridge only
Push-Pull on Volume knob: In= middle pickup off, out=middle pickup on
Now...tell me why it won't work.
i think it could work with a superswitch ...
i did something very like this with my (HSH)540s .. in pos 3 i have a push/pull that controls whether i get combinations of the H H or the S by itself ...
just know that when you pull the pot to add middle pup, it will always be in parallel with whatever the 5 way is selecting
do you want the middle pup to go through the volume and tone pot? if anything, this will be the sticky part, but likely doable
good luck

I agree. I just doodled up a bunch of stuff, and I can get 4 out of 5 with a standard 5-way, but not all 5.
Hmmm. Is there no way around that always-parallel issue? A completely different approach, perhaps, that would allow for the same...umm...9 combinations?
As for whether or not the middle pup passes through the volume and tone...meh...not absolutely necessary. I never use the tone knob and the only time I use volume knobs is to pull back on hot pickups and these will be very low in output, so that's not really an issue. the way i see it you could have 9 choices:
with push/pull quot;pushedquot;
Position 1- Neck pickup only
Position 2- Neck and Bridge, in series
Position 3- OFF
Position 4- Neck and Bridge in parrallel
Position 5- Bridge only
with push/pull quot;pulledquot;
Position 1- Neck pickup in parallel with middle pickup
Position 2- the series combination of Neck and Bridge in parallel with the middle
Position 3- middle only
Position 4- the parallel combination of Neck and Bridge in parallel with the middle
Position 5- Bridge in parallel with middle pickupgood enough?

I don't get it. How is that different from what I described?Originally Posted by tone4daysthe way i see it you could have 9 choices:

it isnt different ... i was just spelling out in detail because i do not understand what you don't like about it ...once you say what you dont like, then we can set about trying to come up with a different approach ... you seemed to not be happy with the 'parallel only' setup of the middle pup, so i wanted to be sure i understood you
if you are happy with this, then we can go with it and get you a wiring diagram ... if you are not happy with this, tell us what you'd want different and we'll try again

I was just wondering if there was any way at all to do the middle pickup in series with the other pickups, when it is turned on, even if that means a radically different wiring/switching approach while still maintaining all the other combinations outlined above.
The only other thing I can think of is perhaps an individual mini-switch to turn each pickup on or off, but then I'm not sure how to affect the series/parallel switching for the neck-bridge combo.
After thinking about it, here is an ideal list of what I'd like to be able to achieve:
Neck pickup onlyNeck and Bridge, in seriesNeck and Bridge in parrallelBridge onlyNeck pickup in series with middle pickupNeck, middle and bridge in seriesMiddle onlyNeck, middle and bridge in parallel (if this were Neck Bridge in parallel with middle in series, that would be okay too, if everything else were as described)Bridge in series with middle pickup
OKay, Ive decided that the options Tone4Days outlined will do just fine -- should be more than complicated enough for me.
Any chance for a schematic?
Also, isn't there some simple mod that one can do to a tone pot in order to allow for removing it from the signal chain when it's turned all the way on? Or could that be done with another push-pull?
