ok i've been playing since 1993, but from '94 to '02 i had no interest and didn't really practice, just played on request, things like pretty woman
anyway i'm gonna have a job pretty quick here, and since i like explorer guitar bodies for fit and feel or anything similar, i'm either gonna put a SD set in an epi gothic explorer or get a dime-o-flame, love the look of them
now the hard part... i had a head injury a few years back so my ears are more sensitive to interference patterns in sound waves.... only specific chords sound good to me, music like sum41 or blink182, or alot of beatles songs, the oddest things just make me cringe for no apparent reason
i know high frequencies can put me in a sour mood real quick, but if there's no high then it won't sound clear.... i quite like the sound my ibanez gsa-60 makes but it wont pick up harmonics, has no sustain and for the life of me won't stay in tune or sound consistent from note to note.... it's boring and frustrating me
i tend to like a scooped tone, but not to the point of any insane nu-metal or any other oddball styles, just so there's not enough mid to sound foggy or fuzzy, and just enough high to sound crisp and clear, enough low to sound full and hit hard, and ****loads of power to grind out a growl that makes you feel like he-man
easier said then done, yes... i like songs with very defined, almost arrogant-sounding chords like in enter sandman, my head's in mississippi by zz-top, cowboys from hell, got you by the balls (AC/DC)... you get the picture
anything that pumps me up and gives me an attitude to start off my day, almost like a morning coffee
well i hope you love reading random blab like this, i just joined after a 26 hour day awake so i'm very sorry for all this, but i hope someone can help me cause you guys really know your stuff and i learned nothing in my year of electronics in high school
thanks folks, and a very merry christmas to all of you!

For the sound you described, you might want to check out the Custom 5 in the bridge and the Alnico II Pro humbucker at the neck.

problem is there's no pickups except for stock gibson, epiphone, gamp;l, ibanez and switch available to test in my little town... switch is a knockoff company like barracuda. i can only go by what i hear on websites, and what i like the look of
what other high output humbuckers would this pickup soundlike per say?
the other issue is i don't like the look of an open-coil pickup with your average poletops, it bores me... i like the look of covered pickups, or blade pickups, or the invader's black polecaps anyway i know i'm just bein picky but i prefer it that way lol
thanks for the idea tho, i'll look into it, and i hope u have a great holiday!

You can install a cover on the uncovered buckers yourself... it's not that hard to do

oh right on
now i'm curious, do i get an invader, custom, custom 5, distortion, screamin' demon, livewire metal.... and thats just the bridge lol
anyway thanks for letting me know that, that REALLY comes in handy gotta go back to christmas dinner, hope u had a merry day!

Dang this is a long post. If you want AC/DC balls, I think they use dual '59 combo or something similar. However, the Jazz/JB combo does this for me. Jazz adds a lot of bass when using both pickups, or just JB for a slap in the face sound (in terms of distortion). To me, running both sounds bassy, running just bridge sounds more slap-in-the-face. But anyways, if you're wondering, Dave Mustain (Megadeth) used this same combo for a long time (I was told that recently he went with the dual EMG combo like Metallica has been using for a while).

You can order covered Duncans from Lew here on the forum. As far as the sound of the C5, some people say it's like a 59 on steroids. It has a big, tight bottom, slightly scooped mids, and a present top that still manages to be smooth under OD.

lol sorry bout that long post, i love to blow off steam like that
is there a way by chance that i can get black covers like an emg, or poles similar to an invader with a custom 5 or jb-type sound?
oh and listening to the pickups on the main site, i like the distortion of the invader for hard rock and the distortion model for metal style, but i heard a jb at a shop 80 miles from here and it hit like a sledgehammer with a good setup.... so i don't know what the sampler was doing for the website to make it all sound so weak. however, for chord balance and clarity, bright and sharp tone but still with decent power/dist, the sh-5 custom sounded the best to me
comments on that, am i crazy or just dumb? lol, and can i get the best of all those worlds somehow? don't forget they're gonna go in a mahogany epi explorer, best guitar i can afford that i like the feel of
g'day all, thanks for all your help so far!
